I first played at HBA in 1996 and I have loved supporting the Hornets senior representative teams for years.
I last played local comp here in 2021 (Thurs Men's A Grade) and hope to be back playing at HBA again soon. I've moved closer to HKBA (another good club) so it's currently more convenient for me to play there.
I have a lot of fond HBA memories from supporting the Hornets, being involved in rep trainings, playing in local comp games and early morning shooting around. The people are always welcoming, the facilities are excellent and I've made some lifelong friends along the way.
It's been awesome to see the Association go from strength to strength over the years.
I look forward to being back at HBA when the 2024 NBL1 East season kicks off!
Cheers š
Professional, modern, & inviting absolutely nothing to be critical of
Loved it great environment for the community to be apart of š ā¦
Well managed and great complex. The canteen has good variety for a quick in between snack and reasonably priced.
Parking gets quite busy, although parents are usually quite good to leave straight after their games to allow the next lot to park.
Iāve been playing at Hills Hornets for a long time and the refs are really strict in the way they handle game management. Too much technical fouls which leads to 5 min in the sun bins. Weāre here to play a social comp and have fun but itās very frustrating. You canāt even ask questions as I requested the ref to clarify the rule and I received a tech foul for asking.
No discussion policy; Itās really poor from a playerās perspective and I donāt encourage anyone who is looking to play social comp at Hills Hornets.
They really need to change management as itās very authoritarian.
Itās well maintained court. There are 6 courts inside with cafe. Court 1 has audience sit out area. Mobile signal will be bad, donāt plan to take office calls or work connected
Good area and facilities for kids sports
Plenty parking
Nice and friendly staffs
My son loved it! Very professional training sessions. Highly recommend sending your kids here!
Hills Hornets grading has been systemically poor. Most recently case our div 4 team was moved to div 1, after missing a season and never winning a comp (in Div 4). Unsurprisingly we have been soundly thrashed from the get go, by great teams who play solid basketball, well above our capability. It is so demoralising even the opposition stop playing just to give us some dignity. Parents of the other teams are apologising to us at the end of games.
We made multiple requests, prior to the start of the season, before redraw, to the club, in writing. Told ... "you lose on avg of less than 12, so you are competitive".
Ever seen teenage boys wanting to sub off? The whole team wants off at every sub. To see kids who just want to play basketball leave in tears every week is heartbreaking. The team love the game, they just want to play. Sure it might build character but enough is enough.
On the positive side, great facilities, great court staff - the refs, the court supervisors and the front bench staff are awesome - they have tried their best and have been amazing - ,they tell us to email, write and call. We have "done all the right things" and followed every direction - but to no avail. It appears if you are not part of the training squads there is scant attention to feedback.
Be careful about your child's wellbeing before putting their name down to play. It is a great stadium and facility, but the grading is toxic and degrading, with no recourse. It is why I am posting here.
